What is a PDO Thread?

PDO (Polydioxonone) threads are made of a synthetic biodegradable polymer and are absorbed into the body over a six-month period by hydrolysis. PDO threads are non-surgical solutions to facial ageing which are clinically-proven to provide long-term results without the need for surgery.

PDO threads help to contract fat tissue offering instant skin tightening whilst stimulating the production of collagen to renew your skin. They improve the texture of the skin, as well as the elasticity, resulting in a natural aesthetics lift.

There are three types of PDO threads:

  • PDO mono threads are smooth and are anchored to targeted areas on the face or scalp. These threads help rejuvenate the skin by stimulating collagen in the skin.

  • PDO screw threads have one or two threads intertwined around the needle, helping to restore volume in sunken areas of the skin.

  • PDO cog threads are larger than the mono and screw. These threads have barbs, also known as cogs, which hook into the skin to support and lift specific areas of the skin.

How long will PDO threads last?

PDO threads remain underneath the targeted area of skin for approximately 6 to 12 months. They are completely safe and biodegradable, which means that they naturally break down over time.

Are PDO threads better than fillers?

In terms of the long-term effects of the treatment, PDO threads last a lot longer than dermal fillers which have a lifespan of approximately 6-9 months and require regular top-ups to maintain their results

Is PDO threading painful?

As with all non-surgical treatment that requires the use of a needle, there may be some discomfort experienced such as a pulling sensation or tugging, however, with the use of topical anaesthetic creams this should be minimal. We always listen to our clients so if any part of the procedure is uncomfortable, please do let us know and we will work with you to reduce it in any way we can.
